Artwork & Production Apprentice

Purpose of the role:

The primary functions of the Artwork & Production Apprentice will be to support the Artwork & Production Manager in all aspects of design and production, providing quality artwork specifically in the industries of security print, commercial print and marketing collateral, both on- and off-line. You will contribute to the overall development of the products include creative concepts, research and written support and develop a thorough understanding of the highly specialised design, print and production industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive instruction in order to be able to assist with final artwork production, prior to print, of all overlays and ancillary products, in accordance within the deadlines.
  • To receive instruction in order to assist with overseeing the security printing once commissioned, liaising with security printers and members of the Team, in order to ensure the highest possible quality.
  • To assist with the accurate, high resolution scanning and image manipulation, where necessary, of all non-digital artworks.
  • To assist with production, outsourcing and commercial print management of products.
  • To receive instruction and assist with creative concepts and quality artworks to support annual marketing campaigns for the promotion of all products and creating advertising material.
  • To assist with the creative concepts and production of product display materials.
  • To scan and preparation for website upload, to the set deadlines.
  • To review and proofread proofs from commercial printers.
  • Research product subjects, establish the appropriate fee scales and prepare commissioning briefs and contracts to external designers and photographers, providing feedback and art direction as appropriate.
  • To source and liaise with subject specialists in order to produce factually correct and internationally commercially attractive products and publicity literature.
  • To be responsible for the accuracy and relevance of subjects and themes, securing quality controls through external professionals where appropriate.
  • To source a selection of visual reference material for products, taking and/or providing photographs where necessary.
  • To research and draft accurate copywriting for products. 
  • To assist with, or draft Press Releases.
  • You will develop and maintain good relationships with national and international suppliers and distributors in addition to media organisations.
Knowledge, Skills and Expertise:
  • A demonstrable portfolio of creative aptitude.
  • Sound and proven working knowledge of all key Apple Mac software applications, not limited to but must include the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop) and scanning applications.
  • Versatility to bring an understanding of visual elements and composition to work in different areas to include typography, artwork origination and image retouching.
  • A demonstrable understanding of commercial print, ‘print ready’ artwork and quality control.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the levels of high quality designs.
  • An excellent and demonstrable level of literacy and English grammar.
  • Demonstrable experience of Microsoft Office applications Word and Excel.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Team player with strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Copywriting and/or proof reading experience would be an advantage.
